Alba Rohrwacher Most Definitely Rocks

The Anna Magnani prize for best actress at the Bari International Film Festival went to Alba Rohrwacher for Hungry Hearts.

She’s worked for most of the great contemporary Italian directors, starred in many films available to Americans, and stars in two films that will be showcased at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

At Tribeca, you’ll be able to see the award-winning Hungry Hearts from director Saverio Costanzo as well as director Laura Bispuri’s Vergine Giurata (Sworn VIrgin), in which Rohrwacher stars in the story of a woman who “sacrifices her femininity for freedom, escaping her destiny of being a wife and servant which is imposed on the women in the inhospitable mountains in Albania and appeals to the old law of the Kanun, swearing eternal virginity and therefore becoming a ‘sworn virgin’.”

Hungry Hearts

Hungry Hearts is the story of young love gone terribly wrong when a young wife and mother decides that her baby boy is an “indigo child”. A chance meeting in the bathroom of a New York City Chinese restaurant brings Jude, a young American engineer and Mina, an Italian girl working for the embassy together and a pregnancy seals the deal. But the romantic idea of throwing caution to the wind and marrying someone you know too little about is a bad one for Jude.
