Revving Up For Cannes: Sorrentino’s ‘Youth’

Sorrentino fights Oscar with Oscars.

So you are Paolo Sorrentno and you are at home, drinking your cappuccino, holding your Oscar (2014 La Grande Bellezza), and wondering what to do next when you’ve set the bar so high for yourself. The only reasonable solution? Make a movie with a bunch of other Oscar winners.

La Giovinezza, or Youth, as it will be called in English, opening in Italian theaters on May 20 and competing for the Palme D’or at Cannes will star two-time Oscar winner Michael Caine, Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda along with Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano.

The film is an original screenplay written by Sorrentino and is set in an elegant hotel in the Alps where Fred and Mick, two old friends confront the truth of their old age together.
