From Napoli, it was Orlando’s encounter in a play with Gabriele Salvatores in the ’80s got him a small role in Salvatores’ second film. Since then he’s gone on to work with many of Italy’s most famous directors like Nanni Moretti and Paolo Virzì, becoming an important character actor of sorts.
My favorite of his roles was in a movie nobody saw, called Missione Di Pace (Peace Mission) with Alba Rohrwacher and Filippo Timi, a hilarious comedy about an inflexible and idealistic young anarchist trying to ruin his father’s military career and having adventures with his pretend friend; Orlando plays the perfect straight man as his world grows progressively out of control.
