While in real life and in the movies women can be very bad to each other, we women would be in big trouble without our great girlfriends like these.

Gilda the prostitute from Giorgia Farina’s ‘Amiche Da Morire‘ didn’t even realize what a true friend she could be until she was forced into it, but I’d love a friend like her. Fearless, funny, and determined, if I ever have a dead body to dispose of, I hope I have somebody like her around. Gilda is played by Claudia Gerini, who would also be a fun friend to  have.

 

In Cristina Comencini’s ‘Latin Lover’, Rita, played by the late Virna Lisi, is the girlfriend I’d most like to be. Having lived a life that was privileged and yet full of heartbreak, Rita appreciates what she has and doesn’t look back.

 

Paola Cortellesi seems like the bestest best friend a girl could have on-screen or off. After all, everybody loves Claudia – Tu la conosci? In Tu La Conosci Claudia with Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, Claudia is determined to be her best self and help humanity by being a best friend.

In Scusate Se Esisto she’s Serena, best friends with a gay guy played by Raoul Bova, but she stands up for her girls at work and takes on “the man” on their behalf.

 

 

I’d take a cross-country jewel hunt with Bruna, (Isabella Ragonese) like the one in La Sedia Della Felicità any day.

 

 

 

It would be useful to have a friend like Danielle (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi) from Roberto Andò’s ‘Viva La Libertà’, someone who would let you hide out at her house when you want to lie low for a while.

 

 

And Maria (Gabriella Pession) from L’Uomo Perfetto may steal your boyfriend and never let you pick the restaurant you are going to, but she’s still pretty fun, and in the end she’s going to want the best for you.

 

 

She probably won’t be doing girly spa days or shopping trips with you, at least at first, but Hana (Alba Rohrwacher) from Laura Bispuri’s Vergine Giurata, would be for sure a fiercely loyal friend.

 

 

The best for last, I want to be friends with Rosalba and Grazia, Licia Maglietta and Marina Massironi. I know you are just fictional characters, but can I please sit on the couch with you girls and watch old movies just like you did in Pane E Tulipani.
