Messina worked as assistant director for Paolo Sorrentino for years and them nabbed Juliette Binoche for his directorial debut, L’Attesa. He says we should expect it in our theaters around Easter.

Alba’s sister Alice is just 33 but has already directed two important films, Corpo Celeste, in 2011, and Le Meraviglie (The Wonders), a film that debuted at Cannes.

Francesco Munzi seems on his way to Sorrentino, Garrone, and Moretti status; his film Anime Nere (Black Souls) won the David di Donatello award for Best Film and a boatload of other awards for best director, best cinematographer, best producer, best screenwriting etc.
Stefano Sollima understands the importance of television, and not only is his most recent film Suburra, produced for Netflix, one of my favorites of the year, but there will be a mini-series based on it in 2016.

I loved directors Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza’s feature film debut Salvo so much that I am just dying to hear more about their upcoming Sicilian Ghost Story. (More about that tomorrow)
