Going Old School On Anna Magnani’s Birthday

She’s an icon of an Italian cinema that doesn’t exist anymore.

And as an actress, they don’t make ’em like her anymore. Her performances exude an earthy passion unequaled to this day. She was a key figure in Italian cinema’s Neorealism, and worked for all the great directors like Rossellini, Pasolini and Fellini.

She won an Oscar for her role in The Rose Tattoo, along with a best actress awards from the Golden Globes, BAFTA, the Berlinale, the Venice Film Festival, and many, many more.

Check her out on the American ’50s TV show, What’s My Line?
