“Recommended for a nomination”…I guess they aren’t quite there yet.
The late Claudio Caligari’s Non Essere Cattivo (Don’t Be Bad) and Paolo Genovese’s Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers) have been nominated to get a nomination (if I understand this process correctly) for this years EFAs (European Film Awards). Also on the list, Paolo Virzì’s La Pazza Gioia (Like Crazy).
Both films have already been highly honored and neither has made it to American theaters (except for film festivals); Non Essere Cattivo was Italy’s entry to the Oscars, and Perfetti Sconosciuti won best foreign screenplay at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Surely this is one more sign that these films are COMING SOON TO THE USA?
The last film of Claudio Caligari tells the story of two marginalized young men, drug addicts/drug dealers in Ostia in the ’90s. Non Essere Cattivo (Don’t Be Bad) tells about the side of Italy the tourists don’t want to know about, but should, if they really want to know Italy.
In Perfetti Sconosciuti, seven friends decide to play a dangerous game. Each one places his cell phone on the table and agrees to make all texts and calls public in an attempt to prove that they have nothing to hide, and I think we can all see how that could play out.
