Italian Girls ruled the roost at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

The girls got a special mention from the SNGCI (Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani) and their film won best film, Premi Pasinetti in the Venice Days section.

It took me about 90 minutes into Giuseppe Piccioni’s Questi Giorni (These Days) to realize that there are hardly any guys in the movie, but it’s not at all “girly”. Angela (Laura Adriani), Liliana (Maria Roveran), Caterina (Marta Gastini) and Anna (Caterina Le Caselle) are friends that decide to go along with Caterina, who’s moving to Belgrade for a job. This is no “woo-hoo spring break” road trip. They have their moments of fun, but each has a burden weighing heavily on them; nobody really feel like talking about it.
