Italian Girls ruled the roost at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
We’ll be watching for all of these girls and their films here in the USA.

The twins in ‘Indivisibili’, Angela and Marianna Fontana
The girls got a special mention from the SNGCI (Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani) and their film won best film, Premi Pasinetti in the Venice Days section.
It’s about eighteen-year-old conjoined twins Dasy and Viola (twins Angela and Marianna Fontana) who have been supporting their family ever since Papà figured out they could sing,
The girlfriends in ‘Questi Giorni’
Caterina Le Caselle, Marta Gastini, Laura Adriani, and Maria Roveran
It took me about 90 minutes into Giuseppe Piccioni’s Questi Giorni (These Days) to realize that there are hardly any guys in the movie, but it’s not at all “girly”. Angela (Laura Adriani), Liliana (Maria Roveran), Caterina (Marta Gastini) and Anna (Caterina Le Caselle) are friends that decide to go along with Caterina, who’s moving to Belgrade for a job. This is no “woo-hoo spring break” road trip. They have their moments of fun, but each has a burden weighing heavily on them; nobody really feel like talking about it.

Margherita Buy, the hot mom in Questi Giorni
Margherita Buy plays Maria Roveran’s hot hairdresser mom Adria.

The teen mom in ‘Piuma’, Blu Yoshimi Di Martino
Blu Yoshima is the star of Roan Johnson’s teen pregnancy movie Piuma, a special award went to the cast, The SNGCI called it “A mix of young talent and professional experience, refreshing to with a new family vocabulary.”

Federica Di Giacomo, director of Liberami
I’m just kicking myself for not getting to see Federica Di Giacomo’s Best Film in the Orizzonti section, Liberami, at Venice. It’s about exorcism.
