CIAK for Women: Here Are The Winners!

CIAK celebrates women and their achievements in cinema 2016!

The Italian Wonder Woman of the year, according to the readers of CIAK magazine,

Anna Foglietta

Anna is among the extraordinary protagonists of one of the biggest successes of the year, Paolo Genovese’s Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers). Perfect Strangers won best international screenplay at the Tribeca Film Festival and I just asked Genovese just yesterday when we’d finally see it in the American theaters, and he says he still doesn’t know…

The female film character of the year is,

Beatrice Morandini Valdirana, played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi in Paolo Virzì’s La Pazza Gioia.

Valeria Bruni Tedeschi was sensational in the role of Beatrice, the delicate flower /emotional trainwreck that never stops moving, never stops buzzing, and couldn’t if she wanted to (and hence, the mental institution that is her home.) Again, this film is sure to arrive here in the states, and I will let you know when I hear about it.

The debutants of the year, none other than those talented, gorgeous twins, Marianna and Angela Fontana, the stars of Edoardo De Angelis’s Indivisibili.

The girls are truly amazing playing conjoined twins Daisy and Viola.

Director of the year, Maria Sole Tognazzi.

This year she directed Io e Lei, (Me, Myself and Her), the emotional love of a lesbian couple played by Sabrina Ferilli and Margherita Buy.

The winning TV actress is Maria Pia Calzone for her role as Donna Imma in Gomorra, the TV series.
