Must See Italian Cinema.

☑️ Il Sud è Niente (South is Nothing)
Still Available FREE from Festival Scope, Sud è Niente is an example of what I would call Neo-Neo Realism, young director Fabio Mollo tells a tale about the mafia in his hometown, Reggio Calabria, just about as far south as you can get in Italy and only a few miles across the Strait of Messina to Sicily.
Il Sud è Niente (South is Nothing) is the story of Cristiano (Vinicio Marchioni) and his family, or what’s left of it, anyway, holding on to the life he’s built for dear life and white knuckling as he tries to get his daughter Grazia (Miriam Karlkvist) situated in life before everything blows up.

☑️ Mia Madre (My Mother)
I have no more dates for Nanni Moretti’s Mia Madre, but I wouldn’t rule out finding it at film festivals around the USA.

☑️ Fuocoammare (Fire At Sea)
We were introduced to Gianfranco Rosi’s Fuocoammare when it won the biggest prize at the Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival), the Golden Bear. Not a prize for best documentary, it won for best film.
Fuocoammare has gone on to impress audiences at major film festivals all over the world, like this year’s New York Film Festival and Chicago Film Festival later this month. It’s the film that will represent Italy in the Oscar race this year.
Fuocoammare is playing in theaters around the country (limited engagement).

☑️ Paola Cortellesi in New York City! She’s bringing her film Gli Ultimi Saranno Ultimi and you can get all the details HERE.
