I’d been sitting here trying to decide which of my new movies I should watch tonight when I came across a news article about Noi Credevamo – We Believed. It announced that it was the winner of ” Il Nastro d’Argento ” (Silver Ribbon), a movie award assigned each year, since 1947 for cinematic performances and production by Sindacato Nazionale dei Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani, the association of Italian film critics. It has won “for its merit and the commitment that it expresses beyond the movie, in the historic passage in the life of the Italian Republic, at 150 years of the unity of the country.”
The award recognizes not only the director Mario Martone but also the technical cast and the actors.
I’ve been excited about this one because A)Luigi Lo Cascio stars in it B)I think it will do well in the David di Donatello Awards and C) Luigi Lo Cascio stars in it. Have I mentioned how much I love Luigi Lo Cascio?
Anyway, Noi Credevamo has just recently been released on DVD in Italy and I ordered it from IBS.it, a great source if you have a DVD player that can play PAL zone 2 movies (mine is region free so I can). It’s the 2010 movie that tells the story of Italy’s unification directed by Mario Martone and also starring Toni Servillo (Gomorrah and Il Divo).
I’ll let you know what I think tomorrow after I watch it, but for now you’d better excuse me. The movie is three hours long so I’d better go get snacks.
