Where Are The Romantic Italian Movies?

Non ti Muovere

I’m on the hunt for recent romantic Italian movies. If you think about it, many  that make it to US are not exactly love stories. Taking a look at my “10 best of the last decade”:

Non ti Muovere and La Doppia Ora are really sick love stories, entertaining, but sick.  Il Divo isn’t  exactly a love story, unless you want to count Giulio Andreotti in love with himself.

Gomorrah – No.

La Stanza del Figlio’s got a love story, but it’s a sad one and not so romantic ( a couple mourns over the death of a son) and in Caterina Va in Città,  Caterina’s got a crush but not a whole lot comes of it – and her parents are just all screwed up.

L’uomo che Verrà – Nope.

La Meglio Gioventù’s got some romance, but it isn’t the main part of the story and Nuovomondo’s about a marriage of convenience.

Many of the movies like Saturno Contro and Cosavogliodipiù depend on infidelity for the romance. There are the typical romantic comedies like “L’uomo Perfetto” but they rarely make it to the United States. Where are the Italian  chick flicks – the movies with a really beautiful actress and a hot actor falling madly in love against all odds  like in the French L’arnacoeur (Heartbreaker)?  This is not a rhetorical question – write and tell me about them.

Cosavogliadipiù

How is that with a country so full of good-looking people there is such a shortage of movies with romance that takes your breath away?

Write and tell me your favorite recent romantic Italian movie – give me some ideas.

My favorite movie couldn’t be included in “the last ten years” list because it’s from 2000,but Pane e Tulipani is so romantic – for someone my age. I’m not sure that younger people would see it that way. Rosalba and Fernando find love by accident at a more advanced age.

Here, Fernando tells Rosalba’s son – “I’ve come to reclaim your mother.”

“Why?”

“Because I love her.”
