The 2012 Nominations for Nastri d’Argento are predictable but solid and reflect a year of good work from Italian filmmakers. A few of the nominations are curious.
Wrote one reader, caugusto16, “I am shocked and disgusted by the two nominations for TO ROME WITH LOVE… Riccardo Scamarcio does nothing in it and Alessandra Mastronardi is downright awful.” Having not yet seen the new Woody Allen movie (it opens in the US on June 22) I can’t say for sure, but based on everything I’ve been reading I’m inclined to believe it’s true.

Paolo Sorrentino for This Must Be The Place (Should Win)
Daniele Vicari for Diaz (Diaz: Don’t Clean Up This Blood) (Will Win)
I’m on the fence between Crialese and Sorrentino for best director, but I was genuinely impressed with Sorrentino’s ability to get American dialogue, pop culture, and behaviour right on the money.
Diaz is a wild guess for “will win”. I think it will be Diaz or Terraferma.
