Opening December 19 in New York and LA, a biographical narrative of Leonardo Da Vinci, using his own words, for those who like having their minds blown.
Using his 6000 pages of handwritten notes and drawings, Peter Capaldi of Doctor Who fame narrates the life, the observations, the discoveries, and the frustrations of Leonardo Da Vinci. Along with visuals of Leonardo’s Italy and the things he was passionate about accompanying the words, you are, ready or not, thrust into a truly unique experience, along for a ride in Da Vinci’s tricked out mind. Within the first few minutes you see his world and what he would have seen and through his eyes; you’ve never seen it like this.
All you have to do is look at nature, Da Vinci tells us,” in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous”, and it as if we have never appreciated nature before. As he watches animals and birds, the questions he asks about their movements and bodies are almost as fascinating as the answers he finds for them. His curiosity is infectious.
Da Vinci’s words could serve as a sort of “manual for living well”, with his intense thoughts on eating, sleeping, lust, and keeping body and mind healthy are inspiring as well as edifying. And though Da Vinci’s own words takes us 98% of the way, director Julian Jones takes us the rest of the way, skillfully and gracefully illustrating the thoughts in a way that makes them feel our own.
